Common Indications

– It can recycle other antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E and glutathione.
– It has anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to dose-dependently reduce NF-KB activity in vitro in TNF-stimulated cells.
– It has a rapid onset of action and improves paresthesia, numbness, sensory deficits and muscle strength in addition to neuropathic pain.
– In clinical practice, ALA can be selected in patients with early neuropathic deficits and symptoms where clinical improvement is more likely.
– According to the meta-analysis study published by Ziegler et al. in 2004, 600 mg/day i.v. for 3 weeks. They showed that treatment with α-lipoic acid is safe and improves both positive neuropathic symptoms and neuropathic deficits to a clinically significant degree in diabetic patients with symptomatic polyneuropathy.
– In a small randomized placebo-controlled pilot study, combined administration of omega 3 and Lipoic acid slowed down both cognitive and functional decline in mild to moderately impaired Alzheimer’s patients for 12 months and was reported to be safe.
