CURCUMİN

Prophylactic Dose and Number of Sessions:

-1 to 10 mg/kg IV test dose on the first day. If tolerated, subsequent doses may increase to 40 mg/kg two to three times per week.

-Much higher doses are required for advanced cancer. If there is a tumor response with Curcumin as primary therapy, doses of 5-10mg/kg are tested and then increased.

-Upper end doses required 30-40mg/kg for tumor response.

Common Indications

Curcumin has been shown in studies to act on multiple targets with various mechanisms of action, altered enzyme, receptor and transcription factor activities and has been reported to have potential anti-inflammatory antioxidant, anti-diabetic and anti-cancer properties. In studies evaluating the effect of curcumin supplementation on suppressing inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress in T2DM patients, a significant decrease in TNF-α and IL-6 was reported. In one study, it was reported that proteinuria, systolic blood pressure and hemoturia decreased in the group taking Curcumin. Tetrahydrocurcumin, an active metabolic agent, reduces HMG CoA reductase activity, lowers serum and liver cholesterol, triglycerides, free fatty acids, VLDL and LDL. Curcumin can inhibit histone acetyltransferase and limit amyloid-forming peptide aggregation, which is common in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

In addition to its anti-inflammatory effects, curcumin also exhibits antioxidative capacity.

Application Recommendations

Application rate: Max. 10 mg/min

In the first IV application, it should be done at a rate of 5 to 5 ml/min. If tolerated, it will usually be tolerated at a rate of 7-10 ml/min. Vitamins, minerals or other antioxidants can be applied in a separate IV on the same day, but if it is not necessary, it is recommended to have at least a one-week break between Curcumin application and other antioxidant applications so that the prooxidant dose is not reached. Oxidative treatments, including IV vitamin C over 20 grams, should be applied at least 24 hours, preferably one week apart. The product should be applied at a temperature close to body temperature during application. It is recommended to use an additional filter during application. It should be applied in 100-250 ml of 0.9% NaCl physiological serum or 5% dextrose solution.

Side Effects:

– Oral curcumin intolerance prevents IV use. Possible reactions that may be seen during oral curcumin application should be carefully asked to the patient.

-It should be used with caution, monitored or not used in patients using anticoagulants, in patients with advanced renal dysfunction and in those with known gallbladder disease.
