ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MIGRAINE ?

There are different types of migraine. Basically, migraine disease is divided into two as;

1. Classic migraine (migraine with aura) and
2. Migraine without aura.

Migraine with aura refers to the type of migraine that begins with a visual aura such as not being able to see a certain point, seeing light, colored dots/haloes, wavy/broken sparkling lines before the migraine attack (usually 5 to 60 minutes before). Some patients may experience only an aura attack without experiencing a headache. Sometimes, what we call an aura may also be in the form of speech impairment, one-sided loss of sensation, tingling or loss of strength/paralysis. However, it should be excluded whether such auras are due to another neurological cause.

Migraine without aura is the most common type of migraine. Attacks may come without any precursor symptoms.

Apart from these two basic migraine groups;
* Retinal migraine Chronic migraine

* Migraine equivalent childhood periodic syndromes

* Migraine associated with special conditions (menstrual period/menstrual migraine, pregnancy migraine. Vertiginous or vestibular migraine etc.) can also occur.
